Electric Prunes - Lost Dreams
Artist: Electric Prunes
Title: Lost Dreams
Genre: Rock/ Acid, Garage, Psychedelic, Blues
The Electric Prunes are like the Holy Grail of '60s rock music, the Godfathers of Psychedelic Rock offer you twenty-three tracks of untainted garage-psych-rock. Lost Dreams is defining representation of the bands sound on one CD.
I think James Lowe puts it into proper perspective on the inner sleeve of the CD when he says:
The music is garage, complete with mistakes,
it is the music of dreams
That is how it started, that's how it ended
We play, we learn, we grow
In harsher light the past seems kind of geeky,
but we saw it as cool.
Riches to all who remember
Now is that poetic justice or what?
I felt chills and the warm 'n' fuzzies while listening to this great music. The originality and timelessness of it all enveloped me immediately. How much music that is available today will sound as good 30 or 40 years down the road? I would be willing to bet not that much of it. The Electric Prunes are one of those special bands that hold their magic in a musical time warp. The best part about all of this is that they are still cranking out some of the most original music being recorded today. This is a blast from the past that will find itself firmly entrenched in music listener's minds in the future. People that enjoy progressive rock should pay attention to this music, as it was precursor to the birth of that genre.
