Title: The Ventures Play the Greatest Instrumental Hits of All Time Vol.2
Label: Varese Sarabande (www.varesesarabande.com)
Genre: Instrumental Rock
The Ventures Play the Greatest Instrumental Hits of All Time Vol.2 picks up where volume one left off for the tireless and ageless instrumental kings The Ventures. I am sure there will be many more releases like this to come as the recorded history of instrumental hits is varied and plentiful.
Although the 16 tracks that populate this CD are superb, they are all rehashed oldies so do not set yourself up for a disappointment expecting an album full newer songs. If they are taken from the original recordings or re-recorded by The Ventures, they always sound wonderful so I am sure you will enjoy this compilation. The tracks were recorded from 1999-2000. The vintage sound remains but it is crisper and more full thanks to the updated studio technologies used to record them again. There are embellishments not normally found within these songs but I appreciated them just the same. My appetite for this kind of music never subsides.
My favorites on this collection are the obscure "Percolator," which a friend of mine had on an old 45 when I was a teenager, "Red River Rock," "Raunchy," which sounds just like the title implies, and "Exodus." To be truthful I enjoyed all the tracks, but there are certain ones that have always been my favorites. What I have to come to expect from this band is nothing but excellence in performance and recording quality. They never disappoint.
