As soon as the first song 'Earthquake' starts on 'Worlds Of Mystery" you will be dazzled at the hypnotic vocals of Richard Pavelec, who has a strong resemblance to David Bowie. He sounds like a combination of Bowie and Iggy Pop actually. He maintains a powerful and magnetic presence in every song on this CD.

Left Coast is an extremely passionately intensive and gifted group of individuals. I absolutely love the progressive rock that I can call savagely beautiful, and that is exactly what their music is. That is my own term for what I would consider to be the ultimate prog-rock. When the opposing factors of power and beauty are constantly playing off of each other, waging war if you will, an exquisiteness is shaped that can only be found in your minds eye. Now that is what great music is able to accomplish. This music will take you wherever you want to go with the bat of an eyelash, just let the story be told in the music and you will arrive at your destination.

I was particularly impressed with this group's multiplicity. They know how to mix up the soft and tender beauty of the keyboards manned by Chris Kokesh to blend expertly with Roger Nigg's pulsating drums, the thunder of Alan Smithey's bass, and the cat quick lead guitar runs of Neal Hedegard. It all makes for the perfect circle of instrumentation that seems so seamless and effortless.

The instrumental pieces are done remarkably well; I would like to hear more. In fact, one of those typical prog-rockers that go on for eight to eleven minutes would make a prolific statement that many people would take notice of. They have the ability, which is for certain. I am a real instrumental head, so that would be the ultimate turn on for me. The stunning instrumental compositions 'Evening In Montreux' and the closer 'Dancing On Crystal', which goes over seven minutes, are centerpieces for the group's immense proficiencies with their instruments, and they serve as a true reflection of what they are capable of. 'Spanish Lover' is a real departure that catches you off guard, and it's a pleasure to listen to with the Latin flavorings and sweet female vocals to add to the far away ambiance. Variety is king on this recording and there is never a dull or wasted moment. This is a five star album, and you won't want it to end.
