Wil Hinkson - Pale Shadows Oh Keh Muse
Artist: Wil Hinkson
Title: Pale Shadows(tm)
Label: Oh Keh Muse (www.ohkehmuse.com)
Genre: Pop
Having lived thru Mike and the Mechanics' 'The Living
Years' and Billy Joel's late 80s ballads, I find a
real affirmation in Wil Hinkson's simple and delighted
pop. The affirmation is just: stay true to yourself,
remember that time is not limitless.
This 6 song EP contains the title track, 'Pale
Shadows', which spent 3 years on playlists in Spain. A
good one, though my favorites have to be 'One Man' and
'Spirit & Stone'. 'One Man' has a good electronic beat
to it and really pushes the backing vocals to make
this something special. Solid pop construction makes
this one the single best on the disc.
'Spirit & Stone' takes a darker tone than the
previous, like a slightly lower Foreigner tune,
relying more on a lighter electronic rhythm behind it
than anything resembling rock. Even just the music
itself has an element of mysticism about it, like
something the ancient Indians might get involved with
if they had somewhere to plug things in.
Adult contemporary pop that is obviously more
self-produced than your average Billboard hit, but
done to a turn, and passionately illustrated.
