Buy now or wait for new tech?
Peace of mind for portables
The incredible advancement in technology has created new hardware and software for all to enjoy. The price of hardware has plummeted to levels only dreamed of by computer lovers just a few years ago. What should I buy now and what should I wait to purchase?
Step 1: Buy the newest MP3 CD player
Once you have the portable MP3 CD player in your possession, rest assured that you have the greatest possible combination of storage, portability and low cost storage available anywhere for many years to come.
Step 2: Car only players - stay away
There are many MP3 car players on the market. They are first generation devices and are quite expensive and very delicate. The EMPEG player suggests taking the unit out of the dash and car on hot or cold days. Wait for the next generation of car CD players (perhaps next year). Although the allure of 2000 songs on a player is quite attractive to anyone who is constantly changing normal CDs while driving, the same thing can be accomplished much more cheaply right now.
Step 3: Use your MP3 CD in the car
Take the portable MP3 CD player along in the car and utilize the external output jack to connect to your car stereo. This can be done either by a cassette-shaped connector that fits into your cassette player, or via an external device jack on the front of your car stereo. Be sure to look for this feature if you are in the market for a new car stereo.
Step 4: Take your player home
Although the number of players available for home stereo use is growing every week, you can wait for a year or two by using your portable MP3 CD player at home. Simply hook the player up to the "AUX In" jacks on the back, and you’ll have the full jukebox capability of 220 songs on a CD.
