How to download music
Find the music
Imagine a few years ago when music was put onto vinyl, cassette tapes, or even compact discs. The inventory was heavy, and distributed by trucks and moving dollies. If you heard a song on the radio, you had to go to the record store, hope they had it in stock, and come home and play it. That distribution model has changed. Now you can hear a song, find it, and download it. This section will tell you how.
Step 1: Getting connected
The first step to downloading music is to have an Internet connection. This can be either a dialup account such as AOL, or a faster or broadband connection such as DSL or Cable modem.
Step 2: Know where to go
Once you are online, you need to know where the music is located. There are over 20 great sites listed in a tutorial on this website, so you can refer to that section for great music download sites.
Step 3: Download or search site
To keep things easy for you, if you don’t have a specific site in mind, the best place to search is not a traditional search engine like Yahoo. Use a music-focused site such as scour.net or a similar site to find it.
Step 4: Get to the site
The search engine site will take you to the site where the mp3 or similar file resides. You can generally get directly to the file from a search site by doubleclicking on it or by going to its website. If you are at a download site, you will probably have to sign up (unless you are a member) to get the file. After the site gets your all important email address, you are ready to download.
