What is a PDA player?
There have been scores of portable digital music players that have been coming out on the market recently. These standalone units have one or more functions related to the playing of digital music. However, when you are out on the road, you may find yourself carrying too many gadgets, and the music might be the first to suffer. What if you could have everything you needed in one package? This is possible today with the introduction of PDA music players.
Step 1: What is a PDA?
A PDA stands for Personal Data Assistant. It contains many functions that can be useful to almost anyone including storing the names, addresses, and phone numbers of thousands of people. You can also use the calendar to keep track of tasks and meetings. They work with your home and office PCs, allowing you to synchronize everything including email, Word and Excel files, and thousands of other applications.
Step 2: Who is the PDA leader?
The most popular of all these devices is the Palm Pilot based on the Palm Operating System. Microsoft also has an OS called CE that is used in units made by Compaq, Casio, and Hewlett Packard.
Step 3: Which is better for music?
There is no question that right now, the stand-alone CE-based players are better at playing music than the Palm PDAs. You can play music on CE PDAs right now using free or inexpensive software.
Step 4: What about Palm’s popularity?
Some people swear by the Palm due to its simplicity and popularity, but at present there is no way to play music on them. There is a product out there, which will be an add-on to the Handspring PDA (which uses the Palm OS), but it is not yet available.
