Matthew J. Casella Archive of Articles
Twenty five year-old singer/songwriter Matthew J started his musical journey in 1990 as a founding member of Krusifire, a four piece thrash metal band from Allentown, Pennsylvania. After releasing three demos, tirelessly playing the club circuit and becoming local metal heroes, Matthew J left the band to pursue a solo career in 1994.
In 1995 Matthew J released his first solo effort, Happier This Way, a three song demo featuring Matthew J on guitars, vocals, piano, bass, and percussion. A serious departure from thrash metal, the songs were ballads and relied heavily on piano and acoustic guitar.
Later that year, Matthew J moved to Tampa, Florida and enrolled at the University of South Florida. While earning a B.A. in Advertising, Matthew J performed at coffee houses and open-mike nights with just his guitar and a female vocalist.
In 1998 Matthew J released his second solo effort. The self-titled, three song demo featured acoustic rock songs. Once again Matthew J performed all instruments and vocals.
During 1999 and 2000 Matthew J traveled various locations including Nashville, TN, Minneapolis, MN, and Portland, OR in search of rock 'ní roll utopia. He didnít find it, but ended up in New Jersey, where he now resides.
2001 takes Matthew J back to his roots with the release of Pop Culture Kills, a melodic hard rock CD featuring blazing guitars, sweeping melodies, and soaring vocals. Produced, engineered and mixed by Matthew J and available from Independent Records, Pop Culture Kills is Matthew J coming into his own. This CD showcases his playing like never before and the positive response from fans has been overwhelming. As usual, he performs all instruments and vocals on the CD.
