Have you ever seen a group with three women playing three electric harps? Let me introduce you to Electric Angel. Midyne Spear, Jill Meniketti, and Lynne Reardon will take you on a trip to the clouds. Their CD "Dream", is an opportunity to create your own personal heaven right here on earth. I was in need of some stress relief when I put on this CD. I must tell you, it was much more effective than any drugstore remedy.
It doesn't surprise me one bit that they hail from the San Francisco bay area. California has always been very progressive, especially when it comes to music. This incredible trio of women musicians makes you wonder why this particular kind of music isn't sweeping the world. Their music fits nicely into the new age genre, while combining elements of folk, rock, and jazz. Its not complex music, however, keep in mind that the ability to represent influences from a wide spectrum of styles is.
One can never assume… it seems as though Andreas Vollenweider, whom popularized the electric harp, is a major influence upon this group. Vollenweider was a pioneer much in the same way Jean Luc Ponty was for the electric violin. Is it fair to say that these women are pioneers? Yes, I believe so. I can't think of anyone else that is making such beautiful music utilizing three electric harps. If there is, I want to hear it.
This recording is a divinely inspired musical collaboration conceived by three angels. Maybe these women aren't really from California, you just never know…
